Shichimen-Tennyo (The Celestial Nymph of Mount Shichimen)
Giclee print (Japanese frame) / Japanese paper, Gold leaf, Tamamushi foil, Pigment, Silk (mounting)
eisui is a Japanese painting artist. She depicts the connection between all that live on this planet. As Buddha had mentioned, knowing that happiness and sufferings are not things that are granted from somewhere is the moment that makes you see your surroundings in a very different light. That philosophy is what she conveys through her minutely drawn female form. The work is drawn as if to dye soil with Japanese painting colors dissolved with water-soluble and water insoluble acrylic emulsions. Applied here is an assortment of colors seen in chromatic techniques and the painting of Buddhist statues. To create an image filled with expressions, the unique feel of mineral colors is brought to the surface, including different textures such as soil, metal, rock and shellfish. Observe the detailed material of the original which cannot be seen in a photograph. Reading the classic scriptures or learning the origin of native costume can help you comprehend and provide you with an artistic appreciation akin to mystery solving.
Born 1972 in Gifu Prefecture in Japan. Left the Western Art Department of Joshibi University of Art and Design midcourse and studied Fine Art for four years at The Art Students League of New York. In 2006, she settled in the small town of Hayakawa-cho where she became involved with the decorative painting of shrines and temples which led her to the study of Buddhism. Impressed by the words of Buddha when she was ill, she began to read and analyze the classic scriptures to further her understanding of Buddhism. Wishing to spread the knowledge of happiness taught by Buddha as a eudaemonic approach that extends across borders, cultures as well as religions, she works at expanding her activities as an artist both at home and abroad.
