THE VOICES WITHIN - This series has been an exploration of the self and the personification of the ‘inner voices’ in the form of varied conversations - entitled ‘The Voices Within’ - focusing specifically on the emotions experienced by individuals during the recent global pandemic and resulting lockdowns; namely – ‘Contradiction’, ‘Serenity’ and ‘Rage’. Each painting allows the viewer to connect to a specific emotion that felt relevant to them; initiating a dialogue with the relevant painting as well as their inner self. It can be a conflicting dialogue with oneself or even a serene monologue | CONTRADICTION - The black canvas here represents the inner self as a blank slate, while the black & white drip symbolises the thought process or contradictory dialogue within. This is how I saw the world around me – in black & white with no gray, especially during the pandemic.
