Javeria Khan is a Pakistani Artist based in the UAE who draws her inspiration from Islamic art particularly the art of illumination and tehzib. Having studied Islamic art at the Kings school of Traditional Art she has adopted the techniques from antiquity to tell her own story of emancipation and self formation. Her subject, the bird, is the representation of her personality and soul. Throughout her compositions the bird is found engulfed in gardens from heaven representing the artist's journey of finding happiness and contentment in her current surroundings. The artist has completed her studies of art at New York University and the National College of Arts and is deeply inspired by the techniques of antiquity. She has studied calligraphy and Mughal miniature painting and she often makes her own pigments into paints and prepares her paper by hand. She believes in reviving the lost traditional arts and thoroughly enjoys the slow process of making that comes with adopting these techniques.
